Most phone manufacturers now produce chargers which work only with their own devices. This brings a lot of headache as you need to purchase new chargers when you buy a new cellphone, especially if it’s from a different brand. Wouldn’t it be very convenient if every phone maker used the same type of phone charger? You can use back the same charger for a very long time!

The GSM Association (GSMA), an umbrella group for the industry has announced that it is working on such a solution together with other 17 other firms. They include big names such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, T-Mobile, Orange, 3, AT&T and Vodafone.

A common format is scheduled to arrive by 2012. As for a connector, it’s expected that micro-USB will be chosen. The GSMA estimates the new charger will mean the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers.

According to Head of Device Management for Vodafone UK, Chris Edwards, they have introduced the Rainbow range after the successful launch of the VF 527 in black and believe that the new colours will appeal to those fashion conscious customers who want a low cost handset that compliments their individual style but is not compromised on features.
The original 3 Skypephone was a useful but fairly basic handset launched last year. It was almost definitely the easiest way to get Skyping on a mobile phone, and combined with 3′s generous data tariffs and excellent approach to roaming charges it proved to be a minor hit, but somewhat overshadowed by the release of the iPhone.

Now 3 has just given us official word that they’re releasing a new 3 Skypephone. 3 have upped their speed to HSDPA for more broadband-like connection speed. That should mean better quality calls over VoIP and less of the dreaded robot voice.

The Skypephone S2 improves the display, camera and download speeds over the original, making it a very much more attractive handset to consumers.

The Skypephone S2′s screen is a 240 x 320 pixel panel measuring 2.2″. The camera is now 3.2 megapixels although we don’t know how sophisticated it is. The most intriguing thing about the 3 Skypephone S2 is it contains all the Windows drivers you need to turn it into a modem – plug in the USB cable and everything will install automatically without needing a CD or internet download.

Your Skype contacts are integrated into your phonebook and it’s easy to tell who’s online, which is good, as non-VoIP calls will cost your standard mobile rates, including Skype calls to mobile numbers.

There is 50MB of internal memory expandable up to 4GB using microSD cards, the handset measures 103 x 45 x 14mm and is powered by a beefy 1150 mAh battery.

It is estimated to be available Q3 2008.

The Taiwanese firm GIGABYTE has been making smart phones and fashion phones for a few years now. One of the latest smart phone is GSmart t600.

Giga-Byte is well known for it Windows Mobile TV solutions but so far, only analogue TV devices were available from Giga-Byte. However, during the 3GSM World Congress, Giga-Byte unveiled a couple of new Windows Mobile 6 devices which features digital terrestrial TV and the first one is the G-Smart t600.

Supporting the DVB-H mobile TV standard, Gigabyte GSmart t600 is a smartphone running the latest Windows Mobile 6 Professional edition. GSmart t600 sporting triband GSM/GPRS, WiFi b/g as well as Bluetooth 2.0. With a size of 1105×55.5.18.5 mm it’s featuring a 2.6″ VGA touch screen. Powered by an XScale CPU at 520 MHz, it has 256 MB ROM and 96 MB RAM which can be extended through microSD memory card.

GSmart t600 has a large 2.6″ display. The display is a touch-sensitive panel with a 640 x 480 pixel resolution, one of the highest resolution displays currently on the market.

Windows Mobile comes with a “Pocket” version of Microsoft Office, plus push email support, Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. However, the real highlight is its TV support which is either DVB-H or DVB-T as well as it can support T-DMBand DAB radio. This means, you can virtually watch live TV wherever you get either the one or the other coverage/system supported. In addition, you can even connect the t600 to a TV to watch TV on a real screen.

Chanel is jumping onto the fashionable cell phone bandwagon with their new concept dreamed up by Fred de Garihe – Chanel Choco Concept Phone. Fred de GARILHE, the designer of this concept phone wanted the global aspect not to look like a phone, more like a make up package. We guess Chanel wants to follow the footsteps of Prada by unveiling a cell phone in the near future.

On the first glance this doesn’t look like a phone at all! When the phone is closed, it looks like a chocolate piece, but made from white, black, or yellow gold surface.

When the phone is closed, it looks like a chocolate piece, but made from white, black, or yellow gold surface, always the same goal on presenting popular objects in a luxury style.

It is specially designed to function with an optical fiber system and display image between two glass parts. There are 12 micro lighter fibers, that throw image components to the glass, that offer a quite good luminosity, and keep the mobile phone concept as light as possible. All lights only appear when you open the phone, by pushing removable part on the side of it.

Leading cordless phone manufacturer VTech(R) Communications, Inc. has announced its latest cordless landline phone system to enable instant messaging (IM) and instant voice using a full QWERTY called the IS6110.
The QWERTY thumb-style keyboard is to make the instant messaging capabilities of the phone easier to use. Beyond the traditional landline capabilities, the IS6110 offers free access to MSN Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, and AOL (News – Alert) Instant Messenger.
