The Panasonic X800 is Panasonic’s second clamshell Symbian OS smartphone, after the X700. At just 17.2mm thin and 99g weight, the X800 is designed to fit your pocket. It’s definately slim and classy enough with glossy white exterior, and you can exchange the front covers as well to give a nice choice of refreshing looks. The triband GSM (900/1800/1900Mhz) X800 sports a VGA camera, Bluetooth, and GPRS connectivity.

A LED camera assist light is positioned at the left of the camera, and the external CSTN screen is located in the middle. The display is capable of showing up to 4096 colours at a resolution of 64 x 96 pixels. You can press a button on the X800’s side to view information like signal strength, battery strength, and network name.

There is a notable feature about the handset where it has a One-Push Auto Open where you only to press on the button to open your phone to answer a call. The spring-loaded mechanism of the One-Push Auto Open is powerful.

The X800 has a large internal display with 176×208 pixels TFT screen, with bright 65K colors, and it’s quite usable even in direct sunlight. The phone’s volume is adjusted via two of the four-way direction keys instead of the usual external button option.

The keypad is completely flush with the surface of the X800. The keys are well-spaced apart, but they are small. This is the common problem for most of the handsets.

The X800 is really similar to the Panasonic X700 in terms of features but with a new design. The document viewer based on Series 60 platform lets you view and edit document files created by Microsoft® Office (Excel,Word,PowerPoint® ).

The X800 comes preinstalled with a few applications. These include a To Do list, a calculator, converter, voice recorder, and clock.

Reviews from CNET Asia Reviews
The good: Triband; slim clamshell; hot-swappable miniSD slot; excellent connectivity options.
The bad: Clumsy design; standard VGA camera; occasional menu slowdowns.
The bottom line: Although it’s tagged as a smart phone, it’s really just your normal phone with the addition of Quickoffice, coupled with unsavory controls that can be daunting to use.

The Panasonic X400 with it’s super slim clamshell case design at just 17.5mm, is designed to fit your pocket and your lifestyle perfectly. This stylish cell phone is about 35% thinner than Panasonic previous X60 series. Compare to other clamshell cell phone, the Panasonic X400 is truly wafer thin, measuring 84 mm x 47 mm x 17.5 mm, and extremely light.

There is a VGA digital camera on the X400 phone. But because of the camera is sit on the top of the phone, this causes the lack of an external display, and bring us much inconvenience. We have to flip open the phone constantly to check the time and new messages.

You can just press on the One-Push Auto Open button pop open the handset and press Send when there is a call in. Dont afraid the possibility of accidental opening, after you have dealt with the phone, you will know that menace is absent.

The buttons on the Panasonic X400 are well-placed but flushed with the surface of the phone. It’s preferable if the buttons were raised slightly for easier texting.

The X400 offers Java applications support and comes with the game you can enjoy anytime, GPRS Class 8 and is WAP 1.2.1-enabled. It allows to select to exchange media content via an infrared connection or MMS.

Review from www.reviewcentre.com

The Good
Lovely looking phone, stylish and neat, compact and extremely light. Black in colour with silver trim, makes up the smooth edges and ergonomic design. Quick Flip button reveals 1″ colour screen and easy to use silver touch pad. Includes point and click inbuilt camera, and easy to use operating system.

The Bad
Sadly will only play polyphonic tunes and not MP3 or WAV. Does not allow recorded sounds to be used as tones or alarms. No diary included, so unable to make daily notes and reminders. The alarm only works once and cannot be repeated for future dates. Annoying live button that connects to the Internet, and always when you don’t want it to. No visible volume control for calls that need to be turned up or down. Battery life could be improved. And constantly having to re-push buttons when writing text messages.

General Comments
I love the look and feel of this phone; it is light and small enough to fit into most pockets. It has the Symbian Operating System so has been well tried and tested over the years. For simple use the functions provided are adequate enough. A simple dictionary, that allows you to store unusual words when writing text messages.
