Universal charger for mobile phones
Most phone manufacturers now produce chargers which work only with their own devices. This brings a lot of headache as you need to purchase new chargers when you buy a new cellphone, especially if it’s from a different brand. Wouldn’t it be very convenient if every phone maker used the same type of phone charger? You can use back the same charger for a very long time!

The GSM Association (GSMA), an umbrella group for the industry has announced that it is working on such a solution together with other 17 other firms. They include big names such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, T-Mobile, Orange, 3, AT&T and Vodafone.

A common format is scheduled to arrive by 2012. As for a connector, it’s expected that micro-USB will be chosen. The GSMA estimates the new charger will mean the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers.
