Nokia 6212 Classic

Nokia 6212 Classic

The Nokia 6212 Classic is a lightweight 3G handset with a QVGA display and 2 megapixel camera, very similar to the Nokia 3120 Classic in terms of core specification. However, the Nokia 6212 has one key difference - it supports NFC technology.

It uses Near Field Communications technology to connect up two devices simply by holding them together, allowing easy photo or ringtone sharing with just one button push. Consumers can store their credit card information on the device and access their account online directly from the handset. Security for transactions is assured by allowing payment only when users expressly authorizes the transaction via an additional passcode.

By tapping an NFC-enabled tag, consumers can get content such as web links, audio files or contact data. Users can activate profiles or open applications such as the FM radio or web browser. Travel tickets can also be charged over the air.

Unlike Bluetooth, NFC works without pairing and relies on physical proximity. You basically swipe your NFC device near the other NFC device and the information exchange can occur immediately, rather like the contactless Oyster Card used in London.

Apart from the nifty NFC technology, the candybar device has 3G connectivity, has a 2-inch TFT screen, MP3 player, and a stereo FM radio. There’s also a 2 megapixel camera and microSD slot for memory expansion (up to 2GB). It’s available later this year, starting in Europe and Asia for around $315.
