Nokia 6300

The announcement of 6300 introduces Nokia into the market of the stylish slim phones, which has been dominated so far by Motorola and Samsung and their respective series- RAZR/SLVR and Ultra.
With a 13.1mm thin form factor, the Nokia 6300 may not be the thinnest candy-bar phone out there, considering that there are already sub-10mm offerings such as the Motorola SLVR L7 and Samsung Ultra Edition 6.9. The main characteristic of this phone is its appearance and its ‘feel’ at touch rather than the functionality of the E and N series smartphones.
A 2 inches display is located at the top of the front panel. The display is a QVGA TFT screen featuring the eye-gratifying resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and reproducing up to 16.7 million colors, it’s bright enough to be distinctly readable at even strong sunshine. it can be used as a full screen viewfinder for the camera.

Below of the display panel is the keyboard, which consisting of software and navigation keys, and a 12-key numeric keypad. The software and the ‘answer/reject call’ keys offer good tactile response. Though the 12 numeric keys are small and cramped to each other, they are very soft at pressing and have again very good tactile response.
The sound volume control rocker which is located on the right of the handset is very hard to feel, and displeasing and difficult to press. It is almost impossible to use it during conversation.
Encased in stainless steel, the phone looks and feels solid. Its rounded edges, together with a cool metallic surface, make it comfortable to hold, be it for making calls or SMS texting. We found the keypad well-spaced and intuitively responsive.
The 6300 comes with an onboard 2-megapixel camera with zoom but without a flash or automatic focus, FM stereo radio, video and music player. The 6300 features 9 Mb of memory, which, however, can be increased by micro SD cards. While we were disappointed with the lack of 3G, the handset makes up with the use of standard ports such as a mini-USB and 2.5mm audio jack, in addition to Bluetooth connectivity.
Taking pictures with the phone’s camera is quite slow, nearly 8 seconds to record one at maximum resolution and after that you need almost as much (15 seconds in all) to be able to start over photographing. You can select color effects, white balance and night mode and there are 6 levels of resolution and 3 for picture compression.
The 6300 features most of the normal organiser standard application such as: Alarm, calendar, to-do list, calculator…Several kinds of notes for a certain day (hour) can be added trouble-free to the calendar. Apart from that there is a single alarm, which is set to go off on a particular days of the week. You have the capability to put down ordinary or to-do notes with 3 priorities. There are Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, and Advanced Capabilities Calculator at your disposal.
The other impressive feature of the Nokia 6300 is the loudspeaker. The loudspeaker sound is quite strong so that ring-tones are audible even in a noisy environment.
